LeadMaster's latest care flight mission!
Angel Flight 6965, Bankstown to Collarenebri on Saturday 22 October
Despite extensive fog and low cloud in the Sydney area on Saturday morning the forecast for the North West was for clear skies. This Angel Flight mission (Angel Flight) was to return a local family to Collarenebri (pop. 487) after they had spent a week in Sydney at Royal Far West (Royal Far West). Royal Far West provides specialist medical services to children from country locations because those services are not available in the areas where they live.
Collarenebri is a native word of the Gamilaraay galariinbaraay, meaning 'place of flowers' or 'eucalyptus blossoms'. It was settled by Europeans in 1860 and has always been an important location for the indigenous Gamilaraay people. “Collie” as it is known locally is located on near a shallow rocky ford on the Barwon River which provided a hard bottomed and shallow ford for stock and pioneering travellers.
This Angel Flight mission was the return leg and was of 2 hours duration. The same trip via road would have taken 8-9 hours.
